The Canto Chain upgrade addresses the recent 33-hour outage caused by a consensus issue, ensuring enhanced stability and reliability for its DeFi-focused blockchain.
On August 12 Cosmos-based layer-1 blockchain saw an outage for more than a day, and now the team has planned an upgrade to fix this issue. The blockchain announced that the outage was caused by to consensus issue.
Canto blockchain, launched in 2022, is famous for permissionless general-purpose blockchain especially focused on DeFi applications, and is also compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine.

As per CantoScan block explorer, the Canto blockchain saw a blackout for almost 33 hours, however, the last transaction occurred at 2:29 am on Aug. 11, from block 10847516 just before the Canto Chain upgrade. Only two transactions were processed on the blockchain as Etherscan cannot deduct any transaction in the past 33 hours.
The blockchain accused Consensus behind this outage and no other comments were given from the blockchain other than the announcement of an upgrade to sort the issue scheduled at noon UTC on Aug. 12.
Before this outage, the blockchain did an upgrade called Callisto upgrade, which was scheduled for August 9 at 14:30 UTC. Canto has not confirmed if the upgrade was completed or if it is connected to the current outage.
The blockchain requested its users not to panic due to an outage caused by the consensus, once the issue is resolved, the blockchain assumes all functions to operate smoothly as before.
“All funds are safe. Once the chain resumes, users will be able to access all activities as usual,” Canto said.
Canto announced becoming a Layer 2 network by migrating to the Ethereum Network in September 2023, but the blockchain was unable to switch and remained a Layer 1 till March 2024.
