Crypto PR executive who emphasizes the importance of skepticism in crypto marketing. Serotonin CEO Amanda Cassatt said that marketing can be used to spread fake promises and scams.
Even though more people are using cryptocurrency, Amanda Cassatt, founder of the Web3 marketing firm Serotonin, believes investors shouldn’t blindly trust the marketing. She says it’s important for people to do their own research instead of relying on ads.
“Marketing is a way to trick people with fake things and scams,” Cassatt shared with famous website at Token2049 in Singapore.
Crypto PR firms tighten standards for crypto projects
Amanda Cassatt emphasized that both experienced and new crypto investors should be “skeptical” of crypto marketing and “always do their own research” to fully understand the technology or products they’re using.
She noted that PR firms have become more careful in recent years, working harder to verify that they represent legitimate crypto projects. According to Cassatt, PR firms often rely on second opinions from fund managers and angel investors who have done deeper financial research.
“We get most of our business from top venture capitalists, and their due diligence on projects helps us a lot,” she explained.
Amanda Cassatt explained that her team also conducts their own checks to ensure a project is not only viable, with a good team and mission, but also a good fit for their firm.
She touched on celebrity involvement in crypto, saying the “contrast” between a celebrity and a crypto product makes it memorable. For example, she noted that rapper Iggy Azalea has created excitement with her Solana-based token, $Mother, despite not being someone typically associated with technology or crypto.
Cassatt also mentioned how the collapse of a crypto project affects more than just the company—it can also impact marketing agencies and influencers. After the FTX collapse in 2022, several YouTube influencers faced a $1 billion lawsuit for promoting the exchange.
