Crypto-Drainer Trend: Shutdowns and Threats
In July 2023, according to Dune analysis, almost 21,100 people became victims and lost almost $85 million in crypto assets.
After the retirement announcement, Pink Drainer changed the name of his Telegram channel to “Bonadifier”. It shows an image of Bonad, a drainer with a mental disability, following the message, “never forget what he took from you.”
In 2023, the Pink Drainer toolkit helped to steal $53 million from 9000 victims. The security researcher responsible for the Pink Drainer toolkit defended the service, stating, “I don’t do phishing, I just write code.”
The announcement from Pink Drainer follows a trend in the crypto-draining world among well-known drainers. In November 2023, Inferno Drainer closed its operations after helping in the theft of $70 million, meanwhile, Monkey Drainer shut down in March 2023 after being a major contributor in the theft of $13 million.
The shutdown of drainer services offers crypto users some temporary relief. There are some other drainers, like Angel Drainer, which is a big threat beyond imagination. In February, Angel Drainer tricked users with a fake Safe Vault message and stole more than $400,000 from 128 crypto wallets.
