XRP lawyer John Deaton says that trying to protect customers is not about crypto, it is about peoples who are trying to make some wealth out of XRP
XRP-Pro lawyer John Deaton stands in the court to support Coinbase customers by requesting to serve as a friend of a court in the battle between Exchange and United States Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).
On April 19, the SEC filed a case against Coinbase in the Southern District Court of New York. The XRP lawyer requested to represent 4,701 customers as amicus counsel in the continuing litigation, which began in June 2023.
“I am admitted or otherwise authorized to practice in this court and I appear in this case as counsel for 4,701 Coinbase Customers,” the filing stated.

In a podcast interview with Fox Business Journalist Eleanor Terrett, Deaton stated that the motivation behind the support of Coinbase customers is to support individuals to ‘’build a little wealth’’ in their life.
“This isn’t about crypto, this is about freedom. ‘’This is about upward mobility; this is about people who want a fighting chance, people who want to build a little wealth. They are not looking to get rich, they’re not crypto bros,” he stated
Coinbase filed an interlocutory appeal just a day after the court refused to dismiss the entire lawsuit.
This appeal gives birth to many questions, ‘’Whether an investment contract requires something contractual,” according to Coinbase’s chief legal officer, Paul Grewal.
In the past few years, Deaton has filed amicus counsel requests in favor of the cryptocurrency community. In December 2021, Dealton submitted an amicus brief on behalf of 6,000 XRP holders in a case between Ripple and the SEC. He submitted a notice of appearance as a friend of the court in the legal battle of LBRY vs. SEC in September 2023.
According to recent news, Dealton has been campaigning for a senate position, which is currently held by Elizabeth Warner.
The Cointelegraph reported that Deaton raised more funds than Warner for this seat. He raised $1.36 million, while Warned collected $1.03 million. Deaton also revealed on Twitter that he spent $500,000 million on the campaign and requested that his followers raise another $500,000 million.
